Sanders Discusses Puerto Rico’s Debt Crisis at Tele-Town Hall (AUDIO)
Last night, the Bernie Sanders campaign held a Tele-Town Hall with hundreds of Latino volunteers across the country to talk about the Puerto Rican financial crisis. At the beginning of the session, Senator Sanders shared his thoughts about the island’s debt problems and how he plans to address them if he were elected President. Later in the recording, other experts talked about Puerto Rico.
“The truth of the matter is that the people of Puerto Rico, should not be forced to pay off loans with interest rates that are of the charts. That is wrong and our goal should not be to make banks even wealthier. Our goal should be to restore the Puerto Rican economy into the kind of shape where children can get a decent education, where health care is of good quality and where there are decent employment opportunities,” said Sanders, before opening the conversation to those on the call.
