Milwaukee Teacher’s Aide Caught Abusing Child on Camera - and Adults on Facebook Blame the Kid
A teacher’s aide at a Milwaukee high school was arrested after being caught on video pushing a 14-year-old boy down in a classroom, Fox6 reports.
It’s hard to tell from the video what led up to the violence but the boy can be heard saying something to the 39-year-old aide before the man roughly pushes him down and then climbs on top of him and holds him down, cursing at him. Neither the suspect nor the student are named by the station.
“I was just watching it like ‘this is unreal. I cannot believe this,'” Jacquan-Anthony Wilder, a student at the high school, told Fox6.
Fox6 reports the incident happened during a freshman biology class and the confrontation was verbal before it escalated and became physical.
Aside from being charged with physically abusing a child, the aide could also lose his job at the school district. The student was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.
“It was actually kind of scary. Like, I cannot believe this is happening,” Wilder said.
The Milwaukee Public Schools district told Fox6 they notified authorities when they were made aware of the incident.
“MPS finds this incident deeply disturbing. As soon as the school administration was notified of the incident, the Milwaukee Police Department was contacted and the staff member was removed from the classroom,” spokeswoman Tony Tagliavia told Fox6. “We are cooperating with MPD. This staff member – who is a paraprofessional (teacher aide) – faces disciplinary action, including termination.”
Many of the people who commented on the video, posted to the news station’s Facebook page, opined that the boy deserved what happened to him.
“These kids are disrespectful bastards/ b*tches,” one person wrote. “They have no structure or discipline in the home because there are no repercussions for their actions. GOOD FOR THE TEACHER!!!!! If a underage punk wants to disrespect me, I WILL do the same.”
“That child got what he deserved,” agreed another. “When you disrespect others because you don’t want to act right, sometimes getting knocked on your ass is a good way to learn to shut your mouth and do your work.”
One woman was appalled by both the video, and the tone of the comments.
“Wow…. These comments… I wonder.. If this would’ve happen to your kid… Would you feel the same way,” she asked. “This Aide had no bussiness putting his hands on this kid… I don’t care what happened. If you can’t deal with kids.. Find another Profession!!”
