You might have heard about the crazy things college kids are doing with marijuana on Instagram, but the elderly?
#ElderlyWhoDab is a burgeoning trend on Instagram that highlights the use of concentrated marijuana (aka: ‘hash’, or ‘dabs’) — by senior citizens. About 250 photos are hashtagged #ElderlyWhoDab, making them searchable across the 200-million active user photo-sharing social network. The account @elderlywhodab has 3,948 followers.
The decline in marijuana prohibition has led to the adoption of new forms of marijuana consumption, as well as use by an unlikely group — senior citizens. Seniors support legalization the least, but with conditions like arthritis, chronic pain, cancer and wasting, they also benefit from cannabinoid therapy. Seniors say vaping some hash helps them instantly manage pain and depression without the carcinogens or irritation of smoking.
Dabs can cause euphoria, commonly referred to as "being stoned." But who cares? They’re 80 — if anyone’s entitled to a little couch-time, it’s Nana and Papa.
