Deadly new tactic in Iraq

News & Politics

According to the NY Times, Iraqi insurgents have taken to wearing US military uniforms for the first time since the invasion:

The sophisticated attack hinted at what could be a new threat for American troops as they start a fresh security plan centered on small bases in Baghdad's bloodiest neighborhoods, where soldiers will live and work with Iraqi forces. Military officials have said that one of their greatest concerns is that troops will be vulnerable to attack from killers who appear to be colleagues.
Just in time for the 21,000 more troops who will be, according to active-duty Sergeant Ronn Cantu, who signed a letter to Congress opposing the escalation, "more sitting ducks, more targets."

Joshua adds ...

Not just uniforms ... The attackers arrived in an SUV convoy, shouting orders at Iraqi troops stationed at roadblocks the exact M.O. of U.S. security contractors and Special Forces operators. That means that for the remainder U.S. troops and other foreign security personnel will have to stop and go through the security process it’ll delay troops’ reaction to attacks and generally make things much more difficult.
