JD Vance’s 'effectiveness might be hamstrung' after Matt Gaetz’s confirmation fail: report

Vice President-Elect JD Vance's efforts to influence the Senate to confirm fellow ex-Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-OH) as attorney general — with Donald Trump's nomination — fell short earlier this week when the former Florida congressman withdrew his name from the running.
In support of Gaetz, Vance visited Capitol Hill to advocate for Gaetz's confirmation, and wrote via social media, "Donald J. Trump just won a major electoral victory. His coattails turned a 49-51 senate to a 53-47 senate. He deserves a cabinet that is loyal to the agenda he was elected to implement."
Still, the vice president-elect's advocacy proved futile.

Per a Sunday Daily Beast report, "The implosion of Gaetz’s nomination coincided with the first test of a new role for Vance."
Although his efforts to confirm Gaetz failed, the vice president-elect is also charged with vouching for Trump's other nominees ahead of 2025.
Additionally, the Beast notes, Vance will also "be tasked with shoring up support for bills Trump wants brought to the House and Senate floors."
However, the MAGA leader's "brazen nomination of a man accused of joining drug-fuelled sex orgies proved Vance’s effectiveness might be hamstrung by the headstrong impulses of his boss, which frequently leave even top Republicans scratching their heads," the Beast emphasizes.
