'Whacked out sociopath': Trump slammed for refusing to call Tim Walz after shootings

Critics of President Donald Trump are arguing that after the shootings of two Minnesota state lawmakers on Saturday, June 14, he should have immediately offered his help to Democratic Gov. Tim Walz and talked to him as soon as possible. Instead, Trump is saying that he has no desire to speak to him.

Trump, on Monday, June 16, told reporters, "I think the governor of Minnesota is so whacked out, I'm not calling him. Why would I call him?"

Trump also told reporters, "I could call him, say, 'Hi, how are you doing?' The guy doesn't have a clue; he's a mess. So, I could be nice and call him, but why waste time?"

Vance Boelter, the suspect in the shootings, was arrested on June 15 following an aggressive manhunt in Minnesota.

Early June 14, the news broke that Minnesota State Sen. John A. Hoffman and Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, both Democrats, had been shot in their homes. Hortman was killed, but Hoffman underwent surgery — and doctors expected him to survive.

Trump's refusal to speak to Walz, who was 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris' running mate, is generating a lot of negative reactions on X, formerly Twitter.

The group American Bridge 21st Century tweeted, "Four people were shot. A 43-hour manhunt gripped Minnesota. The state was in crisis. Trump chose that moment to attack Gov. Tim Walz. It's been over two days since the tragedy, and Trump still hasn’t called. He’s petty, vindictive, and useless in a moment that demands leadership."

Attorney Carol Rearden posted, "Donald Trump is not right in the head."

Journalist Merlisa Lawrence Corbett wrote, "And people wonder why many Americans can't stand Trump."

X user Steve Holbert commented, "Trump is a whacked out sociopath and overall, an a--."

Market analysist/researcher Marshall Auerback wrote, "Trump just can't help himself. This is the most inappropriate time to bring up politics, or his animus toward Tim Walz. It could have been an ideal time to be a bipartisan unifer. But that's just not in Donald's DNA. Disgusting."
