'Vance is in a tough spot': Journalist explains 'why Trump will be Truthing' through VP debate

Puck News senior political corespondent Tara Palmeri detailed vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance’s (R-OH) “tough spot” as he battles Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) on the debate stage Tuesday night.
According to Palmeri, Donald Trump wants Vance to “defend him at every turn … but getting into a tit-for-tat with Walz doesn't help them with their goal of defining [Vice President] Kamala [Harris] to the remaining undecided voters.
“That's why Trump will be Truthing throughout the night,” Palmeri posted on X Tuesday, referring to the former president’s social media platform “Truth Social.”
“Trump essentially wants JD to reenact his own failed debate performance,” Palmeri added.
Indeed, during his September debate with Harris, Trump remained largely “on the defensive”a against Harris as she got under “her rivals skin,” Reuters reported last month.
Since that debate, Trump has repeatedly declined Harris’ challenge for another pre-election debate.
“I’m trying to debate Donald Trump again. I think he should debate again,” Harris said Sunday. “The American people have a right to hear us discuss the issues. And as you say here in Las Vegas, I’m all in. I’m all in, even if my opponent is ready to fold.”
