Trump rages on Truth Social after Secret Service director resigns

The U.S. Secret Service has drawn a great deal of criticism for failing to prevent the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Western Pennsylvania on July 13.

Much of the criticism has been directed at Kimberly Cheatle, who, CNN reports, resigned from her position as the agency's director on Tuesday morning, July 23.

On his Truth Social platform, Trump responded by blaming President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris — who, with Biden having ended his reelection campaign, is now the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

Trump posted, "The Biden/Harris Administration did not properly protect me, and I was forced to take a bullet for Democracy. IT WAS MY GREAT HONOR TO DO SO!"

The National Journal's Kirk A. Bado posted a screenshot of Trump's Truth Social post on X, formerly Twitter.

Bado tweeted, "Right after the Secret Service director resigned, Trump blames Biden/Harris admin for getting shot."

In a statement following Cheatle's resignation, Biden wrote, "The independent review to get to the bottom of what happened on July 13 continues, and I look forward to assessing its conclusions. We all know what happened that day can never happen again. As we move forward, I wish Kim all the best, and I will plan to appoint a new Director soon."
