'Dear God': Trump ripped for 'trophy wives' rant during 'embarrassing' West Point speech

On Saturday, May 24, President Donald Trump gave a commencement speech for West Point Military Academy graduates. And he brought up a topic that is more typical of radio shock jocks and tabloid television than a presidential address: "trophy wives."

During his speech, Trump referenced real estate developer William Levitt (who died in 1994) and told attendees, "He ended up getting a divorce, found a new wife — could you say a trophy wife? I guess we can say a trophy wife — it didn’t work out too well. But that doesn't work out too well, I must tell you, a lot of trophy wives, it doesn’t it work. But it made him happy for a little while, at least. But he found a new wife."

Trump's "trophy wives" comments are receiving a lot of comments on X, formerly Twitter.

Mediaite noted that Trump referenced "trophy wives" comments as part of his "life tips" for West Point cadets.

Journalist Aaron Rupar observed, "West Point commencement audience is totally silent as he rants about trophy wives and yachts."

Biocentrist Annie Van Leur tweeted, "What an embarrassment."

X user The Angry Democrat commented, "Trump talking about 'Trophy Wives' during his West Point commencement speech. DEAR GOD. This is awful."

Another X user, Cara Tillotson, posted, "I didn’t watch, was he referring to Melania?"

X user Sandra Pagan-Ortiz said of Trump, "Does he ever rest? I cannot keep up with him! And its Saturday!"

Classical composer David Gaines wrote, "Leaving the speech itself aside, imagine any other president wearing not just a stupid, tacky baseball cap WHILE DELIVERING A COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS AT WEST POINT, but violating the law by wearing one with a campaign slogan on it owned and trademarked by his campaign committee."
