Critics of President Donald Trump often accuse his supporters of behaving in a cult-like fashion. And two recent examples are being highlighted by Media Matters' Matt Gertz and former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Illinois), a Never Trump conservative.
Trump, on occasion, has accused Fox News and Fox Business of not being sufficiently supportive of him. And Fox News' competitor, Newsmax, prides itself on being to the right of Fox News and even more pro-Trump. But in reality, Fox News' and Fox Business are extremely pro-Trump. And Gertz is highlighting a recent example: Fox News' response to Trump announcing, on April 9, a 90-day postponement of most non-China tariffs.
Trump made his tariffs announcement at a time when his steep new tariffs were causing the stock market to tank and JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon was saying a recession was "likely."

But Fox News, Gertz noted, was spinning the announcement to make it look like Trump was showing himself to be a master of "the art of the deal."
Gertz tweeted, "'Art of the Deal': Fox propagandists spin wildly for Trump's 'huge' tariff 'win.'"
In a separate tweet, Gertz posted, "Meanwhile, reporters at outlets including Fox pointed out that Trump had 'capitulated' out of fear that his unilateral imposition of massive taxes on all of our trading partners was triggering a collapse in the bond market."
X user The Darkest Timeline Numbersmuncher, in response to Gertz, tweeted, "You wouldn't know the difference between Fox News and 'state media' or even a religion owned media outlet. It's beyond parody, but they know exactly what they're doing."

Numbersmuncher isn't the only X user weighing in.
Never Trump conservative Justin Sexton posted, "Our dear leader brought the DOW down 1,776 points in a heroic display of patriotism."
Writer John Thorsson commented, "It really is something to see Fox become the equivalent of RT."
Meanwhile, social media users pointed to a Thursday Cabinet meeting as an example of cult-like devotion to Trump.
Former Barack Obama Administration official Tommy Vietor wrote, "Everyone should watch these Trump admin Cabinet meetings. Most modern Cabinet meetings are more performance than debate or discussion, but this is some North Korea-style clapping and weeping for Dear Leader humiliation for all involved."
According to Walsh and journalist Aaron Ruper, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi was among the Cabinet members who exhibited cult-like behavior.
Rupar tweeted, "Pam Bondi brazenly lies, tells Trump that he was 'overwhelmingly elected by the biggest majority' and says 'you have the authority to determine how the money of this country will be spent.'"
Wash, responding to Rupar's tweeted, post, "This is so f------ gross. This is a cult."
