'Much better off': Internet unleashes on Trump upon his return to social media platform

Media

Almost one year after Donald Trump last posted to X (formerly Twitter), the social media platform's billionaire owner, Elon Musk, reactivated the former president's account Monday, allowing him to post as Vice President Kamala Harris surpasses her 2024 opponent in several polls.

Trump’s post came ahead of a sit-down interview with Musk — a loyal MAGA supporter — slated to take place Monday night.

In addition to posting a two-and-a-half minute campaign video, the ex-president also wrote: Are you better off now than you were when I was president? Our economy is shattered. Our border has been erased. We're a nation in decline. Make the American Dream AFFORDABLE again. Make America SAFE again. Make America GREAT Again!"

Former President Barack Obama staffer Tommy Vietor replied: "Much better off thank you for asking."

Anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project's X account added: "Glad you asked. Yes."

The Independent columnist Ahmed Baba echoed the other sentiments, adding a screenshot from a report he published in March, which noted:

On the final day of Trump’s presidency, America surpassed over 400,000 deaths from a pandemic that his negligence allowed to run rampant. The unemployment rate when Trump entered office was 4.7%. It was 6.7% as he left. The US deficit was at $584B when Trump entered office and is at $3.3T when he left.

Trump is the first President in the history of polling to never rise above a 50% Gallup approval rating, and he also had the lowest polling average of any President. According to The Washington Post, President Trump told over 30,000 lies while in office, including the Big Lie that the election was stolen – a lie that would lead to an illegal attempted overthrow of American democracy by his own supporters.

Former Senator Nina Turner (D-OH) said: "The working class was catching hell under your presidency, too. Cutting taxes for large multinational corporations while allowing these same corporations monopolize things like our food supply & healthcare has made it worse."
