'Don’t run away': MSNBC hosts urge Trump to 'lean in' to Project 2025 after training videos leaked
MSNBC's The Weekend co-hosts on Sunday urged Donald Trump not to shy away from Project 2025 — the far-right plan his administration plans to implement if he secures the White House in November.
The former president actively denies any affiliation to the plan, led by the conservative Heritage Foundation, but several reports confirm MAGA allies from Trump's previous administration are connected to the project.
Co-host Symone Sanders-Townsend played a clip from a series of Project 2025 training videos — published on Saturday by ProPublica — of Trump's former assistant director of Public Affairs warning voters against consuming any media that isn't conservative.

"The American people, who vote for a conservative presidential administration — they're not reading the New York Times," he said. They're not reading the Washington Post. Actually, to the contrary, if those outlets publish something, they're going to assume it's false. So, the only way to reach them with any voice of credibility is through working with conservative media outlets."
Sanders-Townsend then told panelist and former Republican presidential nominee Joe Walsh: "I think people should take this very seriously because Project 2025 — it is couple of different parts, one of them is that 900 page document — but the other part is training a database, and the other part is a database of willing participants who are going to follow what in these videos. This is not some side operation."
Walsh agreed, saying, "People need to pay attention to this."
He added, "Project 2025 is all about conservatives using a big government to push their agenda down the throat of the American people. It's really about turning the American president into a dictator. The Harris campaign needs to continue to pound this issue."

Co-host and former RNC chair Michael Steele added a final point, emphasizing: "No matter how hard you try to run and hide, Donny, you can't. This is all on you, baby. This is your platform, you were on the plane talking about it, you are at the Heritage Foundation talking about it, everybody on this is from your administration — this is you. And own it. Don't run away from it. Go to the American people and tell them 'This is what I'm going to do to you with the people around me, if you elect me.'"
Sanders-Townsend added, "Lean in to it."
