On Monday, October 13 in Tel Aviv, U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke before the Knesset — describing the release of the remaining hostages who Hamas had been holding in Gaza since the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack on Israel. Some Israeli lawmakers serving in the Knesset, critical of Netanyahu, interrupted Trump's speech.
On X, formerly Twitter, Trump's speech is setting off a variety of responses in the MAGA movement. Many MAGA Republicans are praising Trump, but white nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes attacked the speech as a betrayal of the American First movement.
Fuentes tweeted, "Trump's celebratory speech in Israel is disgusting. Praises Miriam Adelson for being Israel First, calls for Netanyahu to be pardoned. And within minutes of the war ending they began to whitewash what happened in Gaza and get everyone to move on. We will never forget."
MAGA Republican Rand Matthews, a self-described "aspiring ICE agent," wrote, "Well Tbf Miriam Adelson is Israeli first. She's a naturalized US citizen, born in Israel. That said, revoke her citizenship and remove her influence from American politics."
X user AI Enthusiast commented, "MAGA has betrayed the US. Israel has never done anything for the West. Jews only steal money from the West and distribute it among other Jews."
Another X user, Jim Eagle, wrote, "Never forget how hard yet subtly they tried to push us into the war over there too. They tried to sic us on Iran."
MAGA Republican Dan Freemont, however, defended Trump and posted a graphic describing the "Top three enemies of MAGA" — which included "communists," "Islamists" and "groypers" (the name that Fuentes' followers use to describe themselves).
X user Ian Hennings posted, "You do realize that Groypers are even more right-winged than MAGA, right? They make ya'll look like liberals…. That’s how alt-right they are, and that’s scary."
X user Justin Burrage, a Fuentes critic, wrote, "Here’s a concise, sourced catalog of the main categories of atrocities committed by Hamas-led militants in Israel on October 7, 2023 (not an exhaustive list, but covering what major investigations have verified). •Mass killings of civilians across southern Israel (kibbutzim, towns, roads) and at the Nova music festival; ~1,200 people killed in Israel that day. •Mass shooting, burning, and executions at specific sites, including Kfar Aza, Be’eri, Nir Oz and others; homes torched and residents killed. •Nova music festival massacre near Re’im: hundreds murdered and dozens abducted. •Hostage-taking (an ongoing war crime) of civilians —including children, women, and elderly — taken into Gaza (about 251 hostages from Oct 7 alone)."
