Republican pollster warns 'red lights flashing everywhere' for Trump and GOP

Republican pollster Frank Luntz is an analyst giant at numbers for Republicans running on an international scale, but what he’s currently predicting for President Donald Trump and Republicans is nothing good.
“There's more than six months between now and Election Day. But there is no issue that will be more important to Republicans’ efforts to keep the House and the Senate than the economy in general, and affordability in particular. And this is not good news for the president at this moment,” Luntz told CNN anchor Omar Jimenez, while also popping on a warning that gas prices drop slow, no matter what happens at the Strait of Hormuz.
Additionally, Luntz castigated Trump for attacking MAGA critics of the president’s war in Iran and other policies, coloring them as betrayers and turncoats.
“These voices matter, and the fact that the president doesn't have a united front at this moment among people who backed him in 2024 is of obvious concern,” said Luntz.
“But the critical nature for me as a pollster are the Independents.” Luntz quickly added. “These are individuals who will vote in 2026, are not aligned by political party, are not particularly ideological and are not particularly political, and their opinions matter most because they're the deciding vote in the two dozen seats that determine who controls Congress. And right now, their hostility to the war, at least at this moment, is going to be a problem for the Republicans.”
Luntz reminded that it's only the middle of April, and “much can change between now and then,” but he warned that nobody should ignore the “warning signs.”
“The red lights flashing everywhere, but that just tells me that the White House and Congress needs to do a better job of explaining why, how, and what happens at the end,” said Luntz.
