'Off-the-charts bonkers': Trump draws brutal mockery for suing Brazilian judge
World

President Donald Trump is known for being highly litigious, often filing civil lawsuits that his critics regard as frivolous. Trump typically targets political or media figures in the United States, but Politico's Kyle Cheney reports that Trump's media company, Trump Media & Technology Group, is suing a Brazilian judge "who is involved in the potential prosecution of" former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

The far-right Bolsonaro, who was voted out of office, is among Trump's top non-U.S. allies and is — like Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Russian President Vladimir Putin — popular in the MAGA movement.

The case is Rumble Inc. and Trump Media & Technology Group v. Alexandre De Moraes, filed in Florida. Justice De Moreas is part of the Brazilian government, and Trump is drawing plenty of mockery on Bluesky for suing a Brazilian official in a U.S. court.

Bluesky user Jorge C. Santos posted, "How can you sue a foreign judge in US courts? US Courts can’t compel him to do anything? What's their standing? What is this?"

Attorney Justine Andronici argued, "This seems odd. Wondering what they are worried might come out? Never thought I'd be rooting for other countries justice systems to save us."

Similarly, Bluesky user Russ Novack wrote, "Ok, so where's the federal question here? And why is this being brought in Tampa? (I know the answer to that one) How can a US court enjoin a foreign court from acting? How is an EO binding on the judicial system of a foreign country?"

Video editor Deirdre Bell posted, "Now Trump is conducting foreign policy through his personal businesses? This is off the charts bonkers. He's supporting his coup buddy & pressuring a foreign judge. Can he sue a judge? The principle of judicial immunity is the foundation of judicial independence. Right? Are we in bizarro world???"

Writer Linda James commented, "Trump thinks his EO's extend to foreign judges? And that his business has the ability to enforce it through a lawsuit? Which U.S. prosecutor will take that on?

Self-described "reformed Republican" Gail Lane wrote, "Seriously, I know lots of words but they are all beginning to either be overused or lack the necessary importance to express my disgust.
