RNC fundraising is 'in the toilet' — even with 'cash draw' Trump: report

Legal problems, criminal indictments and all, 2024 GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump still excites the Republican Party base. If anything, the fact that Trump is facing four prosecutions is making GOP voters more inclined to support him, not less. Trump leads the second-place candidate, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, by 44 percent in a Morning Consult poll released in late August.
But in terms of fundraising, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has "slumped," according to Daily Beast reporters Zachary Petrizzo and Roger Sollenberger,
In an article published on August 31, the journalists explain, "At the start of the 2022 midterm cycle, the RNC had twice as much cash on hand as the Democratic National Committee — $80.5 million versus $38.8 million. Now, the RNC has less than half as much on hand as the DNC — $11.8 million to the DNC's $25.4 million. The reversal comes after longtime RNC chair Ronna McDaniel fought off a contentious challenge to her leadership earlier this year, a victory secured partly through her pledge to prioritize the party's fundraising efforts."
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?
Petrizzo and Sollenberger note that Trump remains "the top Republican cash draw," adding that his popularity with GOP voters "doesn't do the RNC itself as much good as it once did."
An RNC member, interviewed on condition of anonymity, told the Beast, "The fundraising has gone in the toilet. They're not raising money…. They are way behind. They don't have money in the bank."
