'Too much Diet Coke': Trump brutally mocked after botching key detail on diplomatic trip

During former President Joe Biden's four years in the White House, Donald Trump relentlessly mocked "Sleepy Joe" for his age and his gaffes.
Biden was always gaffe-prone — the result of a speech impediment he overcame — and had plenty of them when he was younger back in the 1980s and 1990s. But whenever Biden made a misstatement, Trump and other MAGA Republicans would paint him as mentally impaired and too old for the job.
Trump, however, is only slightly younger than Biden. Now 82, Biden is part of the Silent Generation, while Trump, at 79, is a Baby Boomer. And Trump's own gaffes and memory lapses are drawing a lot of attention.

The Daily Beast's Tom Latchem notes that during a Monday morning, September 8 speech, Trump didn't remember exactly when he made a multi-country visit to the Middle East.
Addressing the White House Religious Liberty Commission at the Museum of the Bible, Trump told attendees he had "just left" the Middle East.
Trump said, "Leaders from all over the world that talked to me… I just left the Middle East — King of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE…. Then, I was with the heads of NATO."
Latchem notes, however, that Trump visited the Middle East back in May and met with NATO leaders at their summit in The Hague on June 24-25.

The Daily Beast reporter observes, "Donald Trump endured another confusing senior moment…. Trump's embarrassing slips are becoming a pattern documented by the Daily Beast over the past few months. The president has forgotten the name of the ocean he meant on 'Fox & Friends,' blanked on a 'big' war he says he ended, failed to spot Finland's president sitting directly opposite him, and misnamed DHS Secretary Kristi Noem as golfer Cristie Kerr, among others."
Trump's comments on his trip to the Middle East are drawing a lot of discussion on social media.
On Bluesky, journalist Aaron Rupar pointed out, "Trump: "I just left the Middle East.... (Trump last traveled to the Middle East four months ago)."
Bluesky user Shannon Rich remarked, "Can we send him back? Will they keep him?"
Meanwhile, on X, Kim Leclerc joked, "Too much Diet Coke."
X user Charles Perreira posted, "Trump's claim that he 'just left the Middle East' is blatant misinformation. His last official visit was May 13–16, 2025, spanning Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, over three months ago. During that trip, he met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and President Mohamed bin Zayed, attended the Gulf Cooperation Council Summit, and touted deals allegedly worth $4 trillion. The visit was framed as diplomatic success, but it was largely about optics, business deals, and self-promotion. Presenting it as recent is a clear attempt to exaggerate his influence and relevance on the world stage."
Another X user, Artie Vandelay tweeted, "Trump means the Middle East portion of his White House patio."
