'We're talking about sociopaths': George Conway slams Trumpworld's disregard for legality

Dismantling and radically restructuring the United States' federal government was a major goal of Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation's 922-page blueprint for a second Trump Administration. And even though Donald Trump, during his 2024 campaign, denied knowing anything about Project 2025, the president and his allies are pushing for mass firings with the FBI, USAID and other agencies.

Conservative attorney George Conway, one of the most outspoken Never Trumpers, offered scathing criticism of Trump and his allies' efforts to tear down the federal government during an appearance on The Bulwark's vodcast.

Conway alleged to host and Bulwark publisher Sarah Longwell that much of what Trump is doing to attack government agencies is illegal.

Conway told Longwell, "It is just a Festivus of illegality that we have here in the United States of America….. I don't think you can possibly catch up to all of the things that are happening as they have."

The attorney argued that Trump's allies "have a strategy of just overwhelming everybody," adding, "And they do have an advantage: not that they're smart, it's that they're evil. And they have an advantage in that normally, if you and I took over the government and wanted to turn it around in some fashion suitable to our beliefs and desires, we'd be sitting around carefully figuring out, OK, carefully, what the plan is."

Conway continued, "Would our plan work? We'd be consulting with lawyers to figure out whether the plan was legal, and what authorizations would it require.... And that's a process. They don't believe in any of that. They don't care about the side effects…. They certainly do not care about legality, and that's the advantage they have."

The Never Trumper stressed that "bullies act in an unrestrained fashion to intimidate."

Conway told Longwell, "You intimidate, and the way you intimidate is you just come at everybody all at once…. You have a government that is psychopathic. It is being run by psychopaths for psychopathic ends…. We're talking about sociopaths here."
