'The enemy from within': Dem rep schools MAGA sen for giving Trump a pass on rhetoric

U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) had to remind Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) that Trump is the biggest divider of all when Mullin accused Democrats of ramping up the hostility that led to the recent assassination of MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk.
“What do you expect is going to happen if you stir a fire?" Mullin asked. "Coals are going to come out of it. If you pour gasoline on a fire, it's going to explode, and sometimes we gaslight the base and it's been happening a lot. And I'm not, I'm not — I am pointing fingers here because this happened to Republicans a lot lately, but it seems like the Democrats are gaslighting this a lot more.”
“It goes from calling the president a dictator, from saying that … we are Nazis. It's been an attack on Christian values. You see it across campuses that you either agree with us or you're the enemy.”

Gottheimer — a friend of Mullin — was not ready to let the finger wag without a response.
“I get that if you're sitting in Republican shoes, you look at the other side and you say, ‘I have problems with this,’ but if you sit in the Democrat's shoes, … one of us shouldn't say ‘it's the other side,’ because both sides are guilty of this,” Gottheimer said. “The president of the United States, I mean, calls Democrats ‘vermin’ or ‘the enemy from within.’ You know the rhetoric.”
On Wednesday Trump blamed the “radical left” for political violence in the country and claimed Democratic comparisons to Kirk and other MAGA influencers to Nazis led directly to his murder.
“For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now,” Trump said, without mentioning that he’d earlier called Democrats “radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country, and threatened to use the military on the “enemy from within” on Election Day.

“The worst thing that could happen to me right now is the president, or any of our leaders, coming out and saying ‘it's their fault’ and going after the other side,” said Gottheimer.
