'It’s about the candidate, stupid': How Trump’s 'weird cognitive dissonance' is tanking campaign
During a CNN appearance last week, conservative commentator S.E. Cupp offered advice to her dear friend and Donald Trump 2024 campaign senior adviser Chris LaCivita: "Quit."
Cupp urged LaCivita to "save himself" from Trump and 2024 vice presidential nominee Senator JD Vance, calling the pair "disasters."
Since President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the position last month, Trump and his allies have turned his MAGA campaign into one, big racial identity attack on the vice president — which is not a winning strategy, many political experts argue.

However, some political operatives believe Trump's campaign is better than it was in 2020 because he has better campaign advisers this time around: Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles.
MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace on Monday talked to conservative Charlie Sykes about why this assumption is not the best one to make.
"I think it's time to examine our own mythologies," Wallace said. "There's a mythology around Chris LaCivita and [senior Trump campaign adviser], Susie Wiles because the Trump campaign was better than when Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner and Corey Lewandowski ran it. I think we have to test our assumptions."
Sykes replied, "Yeah, because it's always about the candidate, stupid. It's always about the candidate."

The former Bulwark editor-in-chief added, "Whatever campaign you put together, it's still Donald Trump, and Donald Trump is going to do his thing. And this is the problem: There's no new Trump — no changed Trump. And the fat Elvis part of him is that he's going back to his old playlist, figuring 'I'm going to go back to the things that worked for me a decade ago. And they're not landing anymore. There's a weird cognitive dissonance. It's just not working. And it's not up to his campaign to figure out what to do because they're stuck with Donald Trump."
