During a late November speech at New York City's Gotham Awards, veteran actor Robert De Niro had some scathing comments about former President Donald Trump. The 80-year-old De Niro slammed Trump as a "charlatan" who "lied to us more than 30,000 times during his four years in office," warning that he is waging a "campaign of retribution" against his critics and foes.

Trump, true to form, responded not by refuting what De Niro had to say, but with name-calling and a personal attack.

In a Sunday night, December 3 rant on his Truth Social platform, Trump posted, "Robert De Niro, whose acting talents have greatly diminished, with his reputation now shot, must even use a teleprompter for his foul and disgusting language, so disrespectful to our Country. He has become unwatchable both in movies, and with the FOOLS that destroyed the Academy Awards, bringing them from one of the top shows in the Country to a Low Rated afterthought. De Niro should focus on his life, which is a mess, rather than the lives of others."

The 2024 GOP presidential frontrunner added, "He has become a total loser as the World watches, waits and laughs!"

One of the most influential actors of the last 50 years, De Niro is famous for his roles in Martin Scorsese films that include "Taxi Driver" (1976), "Raging Bull" (1980), "Mean Streets" (1973) and "Goodfellas" (1990), among others. Scorsese made his debut as a director with 1993's "A Bronx Tale" and also appeared in everything from Michael Simino's "The Deer Hunter" in 1978 to Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" in 1997.

At the Gotham Awards, De Niro was honored for his contributions to Scorsese's latest film, "Killers of the Flower Moon."

During his speech, De Niro was angry because his anti-Trump comments were removed from the teleprompter. But he made them anyway and slammed Apple for the removal, saying, "How dare they do that, actually."
