Wisconsin editor bemoans Trump’s unhinged fundraising: 'Fact-defying appeals are continuing unabated'

Former President Donald Trump's fundraising pitches, like his social media posts, have long had a recurring theme of persecution. Democrats, Never Trump conservatives and the "Deep State," Trump has emphasized, are out to get him — and they will stop at nothing.
Trump often makes it personal, telling supporters that when the "Deep State" attacks him, they're attacking you.
In an article published by the conservative website The Bulwark on November 28, Wisconsin-based journalist Bill Lueders describes some of the melodramatic, over-the-top fundraising e-mails recently sent by Trump's 2024 campaign and its allies. The pitches are clearly designed to terrify GOP voters into giving him money, but they also stress that there is a bond — a connection, a "trust" — between Trump and his supporters.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?
Describing some of the fundraising pitches he has received, Lueders explains, "His fact-defying funding appeals are continuing unabated and will surely ramp up as his campaign gets going in earnest. If I were to join Trump's inner circle, as he has invited me to do, I would advise him to stop slamming on the gas with all these appeals. But that would cost at least $24 — money I am saving for my retirement."
For example, Lueders highlights a pitch saying it was "critical that the President’s most TRUSTED ALLIES like YOU step up to defend him."
One of Trump's recent fundraising pitches, according to Lueders, read, "This year, President Trump learned who his TRUE allies are. He also learned who would gladly stab him in the back during the most despicable witch hunts that will forever go down as a stain on our country's history."
Another fundraising e-mail read, "All the way back in April of this year, I told you that the witch hunts had taken their darkest turn yet. I think I've now said that every single month since then. But sadly, it's the truth. With every passing month, Crooked Joe and the Democrats have turned up the heat in their vicious witch hunts against me and our movement."
Lueders notes, "Over the years, I have gotten thousands of messages like this from Trump, his campaign, and other allies, including members of his family. During a two-week period in November, my e-mail 'Trash' folder accumulated 74 such appeals — an average of about five a day. All of these e-mails ask for money, and each one argues that the need to come up with some has never been greater at any prior time…. A few are quite explicit about the danger that the people receiving these e-mails are in."
Lueders points out that a recent e-mail read, "Crooked Joe and the Democrats want to show the nation that these are the consequences of choosing to put a political outsider in the White House. This is ultimately about installing FEAR in the public. The fear that if you stand in the way of their Marxist agenda, then YOU could be INDICTED, ARRESTED, or IMPRISONED for your beliefs."
