During Donald Trump's Fox News town hall on women's issues that aired on Wednesday, the 78-year-old former president revealed that he didn't know what IVF [In vitro fertilization] was until US Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) explained it to him earlier this year.

When a woman in the audience asked the GOP about his stance on IVF, Trump replied, "I got a call from Katie Britt. A young, just a fantastically attractive person from Alabama. She's a senator. And she called me up like, 'Emergency! Emergency!' because an Alabama judge had ruled that the IVF clinics were illegal and they have to be closed down. A judge ruled. And she said, 'Friends of mine came up to me and they were so angry. I didn't know they were even involved in it.' Nobody talks about that. But now that they can't do it, she said, 'I was attacked.'"

"And I said, 'Explain IVF very quickly,'" the former president continued. "Within about two minutes I understood it. I said, 'No, no. We're totally in favor of IVF.'"

After the Alabama Supreme Court declared embryos as children, "and those who destroy them can be held liable for wrongful death," CNN notes, "Trump and Republicans quickly distanced themselves from the Alabama case, but Democrats, led by Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, have argued that the ruling offered a preview of the policies Trump would seek to enact if he returned to the White House."

Although Trump said he didn't know about the treatment until Britt helped him understand, the MAGA hopeful also declared himself "the father of IVF," according to the news outlet.

2024 Democratic nominee Kamala Harris responded to her opponent's claim via social media, writing: "Donald Trump called himself ‘the father of IVF.’ What is he talking about? His abortion bans have already jeopardized access to it in states across the country — and his own platform could end IVF altogether."
