U.S. congressman and Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) issued a response immediately following House Republicans' official endorsement of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

The Republicans' decision comes after several top GOP representatives, including Chuck Grassley (R-IA) admitted Wednesday there is "no evidence" to back his colleagues' inquiry.

The Committee on Oversight and Accountability shared the Maryland Democratic lawmaker's statement via X (formerly Twitter).

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

"In spite of the evidence showing no wrongdoing by President Biden, much less an impeachable offense, Republicans voted today to endorse the countless lies that define this inquiry demanded by Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene," Raskin said. "Republicans refused to commit to hold a public hearing and instead voted to skirt transparency requirements as part of an effort to hide the facts from the American people. In short, House Republicans are empowering the impeachment Committee Chairs to further misrepresent and distort witness statements, while shielding their lies from public scrutiny."

He emphasized, "A mountain of evidence and deluge of independent reporting, including from numerous conservative outlets, have discredited every single allegation leveled by Republicans against President Biden in their painstaking and fruitless inquiry—from bogus smears about Giuliani’s Ukraine conspiracy to comical distortions about intrafamily auto payments to desperate and self-debunking cries of obstruction, all proven to be distortions, concoctions, and outright lies."

The ranking member added, "By endorsing this impeachment inquiry, the Republican Conference is signing up for another year of a ‘Do Nothing’ Congress: No substantive legislation or policy progress, all political fantasy and conspiracy theory. This bogus inquiry is part of a continuing assault on truth, the Constitution, and our democratic institutions which began during the Trump Administration and exploded on January 6, 2021. This impeachment show is run by people who tried to stop Joe Biden from taking office in the first place and now are fighting to put Donald Trump back in power."
