Security for President Donald Trump's border czar Tom Homan costs over $500,000 each month, CBS News reported Friday. When factoring in agent salaries, airfare, hotel stays, and other travel-related costs, the total monthly expense is closer to $1 million, per the report.

Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin told CBS: "DHS ensures our leaders are safe and protected."

She stated that "dangerous rhetoric" from politicians and activists about the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement has led to a rise in assaults and incidents of doxxing, where individuals' personal information is shared online.

"We will continue to take measures to ensure Mr. Homan and his family are safe," McLaughlin said.

"Homan, one of the faces of President Trump's pledge to conduct the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, has drawn threats from those who want to cause him harm -- the question is whether he needs as much security as he has requested, sources told @NicoleSganga and me," CBS reporter Jennifer Jacobs wrote on the social platform X, sharing the story.

Former Homeland Security spokesperson Alex Howard wrote on X."Tom Homan is costing taxpayers $1M a month in security—more than some cabinet secretaries. For a guy whose job is mostly Fox hits and rage-tweeting about the border, that’s a hell of a budget."

"Wow. Much government efficiency and cutting waste!" wrote a user reacting to the news.

"The DOGE dudes should take a look at this, right?" said another user.

"No money for FEMA, no money for programs meant to help Americans, but we can afford millions for Donald to golf and Homan’s security while he kidnaps people," tweeted an X account.

However, some commentators pushed back on the idea that Homan's security is unnecessary.

Conservative podcaster Eric Teetsel wrote: "The president was the target of two assassination plots. A health insurance CEO was the target of a politically motivated assassin, who murdered him in cold blood. Two young Jewish residents of DC were murdered by a pro-Palestinian zealot this week. So, yes, he needs it."
