'The Black man is charged': Twitch star’s arrest for 'inciting a riot' draws angry parallels to Trump

Mayhem erupted in New York City on Friday when throngs of social media influencer Kai Cenat's followers inundated Union Square hoping to claim one of a number of prizes that the popular vlogger had promised to give away.

Reuters reported that Cenat was taken into custody and charged with "inciting a riot and promoting an unlawful gathering," noting that "the event produced chaos, with dozens of people arrested — some jumping atop vehicles, hurling bottles and throwing punches."

Almost immediately, parallels were drawn between the Cenat incident and the January 6th, 2021 insurrection at the United States Capitol.

Author and Democratic strategist Keith Boykin: "It only took a few minutes to arrest 21-year-old Kai Cenat and charge him for inciting a riot in New York. But it took 2 1/2 years to arrest 77-year-old Donald Trump for the riot he caused in Washington, DC. And he still wasn't charged for inciting it."

Media consultant Keith Edwards: "So a streamer unexpectedly draws a large crowd and gets arrested and charged with inciting a riot, but Donald Trump never did for the January 6th insurrection? Ok."

Former Manhattan prosecutor Karen Agnifilo: "The Black man is charged with inciting a riot - but when Trump did this and worse, it has taken years for accountability."

The New Republic Deputy Editor Jason Linkins: "It rules that the Kai Cenat mess happened the same week everyone went out on some weird 1A limbs over this latest Trump indictment but who will write that take."

Other casual observers said that a "two-tier justice system" is afoot.
