Corey Lewandowski has “lost” a “power struggle” within Donald Trump’s campaign a mere two months after joining the former president as a senior adviser, the Guardian reports.

According to the report, Lewandowski has been reassigned to a surrogate role after the former 2016 campaign chief suggested this summer “he would be taking” over Trump's third bid for office. Lewandowski also ruffled feathers by suggesting campaign funds may have been “mismanaged.”

“Trump had wanted Lewandowski by his side through the summer until he soured on his antics in recent weeks,” the Guardian reports, citing people familiar with the Trump campaign.

“[Lewandowski] blew himself up,” a Trump official said. “The entire staff has been working together for two years. You think you’re going to come in at the end and throw your weight around? A bit misguided.”

The Guardian reports:

In 2016, Lewandowski was unceremoniously fired as campaign chief after he repeatedly clashed with Trump’s children, only to return in 2021 to run a pro-Trump super Pac until he was ousted from that, too, over unwanted sexual advances towards a female donor.

An ally of the former president told the Guardian Lewandowski is “Trump’s comfort blanket.”

“And he’s like a cockroach. He never dies,” that ally said.
