Attorney Sidney Powell's efforts to help Donald Trump overturn the United States' 2020 presidential election results have brought her a variety of legal problems ranging from criminal to civil.

In addition to being sued for defamation in civil lawsuits by Dominion Voting Systems and its competitor Smartmatic, Powell is among the many co-defendants in Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis' criminal case against Trump.

But on Thursday, October 19, Powell entered a "guilty" plea in Willis' case. According to the plea deal, Powell will receive six years of probation but avoid prison. And in exchange, she must fully cooperate with Willis' office.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

In an article published on October 21, Washington Post reporters Isaac Stanley-Becker, Amy Gardner and Josh Dawsey emphasize that Powell has gone from being an aggressive Trump ally to being a major "threat" for the ex-president.

"The deal turns Powell into the government's most prominent known asset in its quest to convict Trump, potentially now dangerous to the president she once supported," the journalists explain. "But it also represents a personal minefield for the 68-year-old lawyer, who is still fundraising based on a promise to sponsor causes that are dear to supporters of the former president, including the legal defense of people accused of breaching the Capitol on January 6, 2021."

Attorney Jonathon Moseley, who has represented some of the January 6 defendants, wasn't expecting Powell to flip on Trump.

Moseley told the Post, "I'm surprised. She built a reputation on being a fighter. She wrote a book called 'Licensed to Lie' about government corruption. I just wouldn't have expected her to stop fighting."
