CNN anchor Chris Wallace on Monday slammed Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ (R-AR) “really out of touch” attack on Vice President Kamala Harris, arguing the former White House press secretary’s criticism of blended families is “not something that the Republican Party should pursue.”

At a Donald Trump rally last month, Huckabee Sanders told the crowd that while her kids keep her humble, “unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn’t have anything keeping her humble.”

Harris addressed Huckabee Sanders’ remark on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast Sunday, telling host Alex Cooper the Arkansas governor’s attack shows a lack of understanding about “modern families. The vice president shares two step kids with her husband, Doug Emhoff.

“I love those kids to death and family comes in many forms,” Harris said. “And I think that increasingly, you know, all of us understand that this is not the 1950s anymore. Families come in all kinds of shapes and forms and they’re family nonetheless.”

As CNN reported, in statement to Politico this weekend, Gov. Sanders claimed she "would never criticize a woman for not having children” and instead was trying to point out that Harris “doesn't believe our leaders should be humble."

Asked about the back-and-forth on Monday, Wallace delivered a warning to the GOP about “modern families.”

’”… In America in 2024, they do come in all shapes and sizes and there are blended families and parents and step parents,” Wallace said. “And the idea of shaming somebody because she didn't have children the old fashioned way — she had stepchildren — it seems to me as really out of touch with where the country is now. And not something that the Republican Party should pursue.”
