John Bolton, Donald Trump’s former national security advisor, on Thursday offered his blunt assessment of his one-time boss’s latest Cabinet picks, insisting he thought Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence “was the worst Cabinet-level appointment in history — until [he] heard about the Matt Gaetz appointment.”

Trump on Wednesday announced he will nominate Gaetz for attorney general — sending “shockwaves” through the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Bolton told CNN the nominations of Gaetz and Gabbard leave him wondering if the U.S. Senate “can stand up and reject two people who are totally unqualified, unfit professionally, and really lacking in moral characteristics the character you need to hold these jobs.”

“I think this vote should be 100 to zero against both of them,” Bolton said.

The former national security advisor also called for a full Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) probe into both nominees before granting them confirmation hearings.

“It is very typical,” Bolton explained. “It should be for everybody, but especially for these two.”
