Although U.S. President Donald Trump's war against Iran is drawing intense criticism from both the left and parts of the right, some of his diehard supporters are praising his handling of the war as strategically brilliant. But Never Trump conservative Rick Wilson, in a "Fast Politics" video with liberal journalist Molly Jong-Fast, argued that Trump's war is anything but strategic.
In the video, posted on YouTube on Sunday night, April 12, the former GOP strategist told Jong-Fast, "Nothing says strategic genius like turning the whole world against you."
With the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz — a major Middle Eastern waterway — being blocked, Wilson warned, Trump is causing economic pain all over the world.
Wilson told Jong-Fast, "Here's the problem with this whole thing. Donald Trump truly believes this is a move like 87-dimensional quantum string theory chess when, in fact—in all the all-time list of dumb s– –, land war in Asia, check, already there. Blocking the straits, which turns off the entire world economy, that means everything. That means they're not making any semiconductors in South Korea and Taiwan because we'll be cutting off the helium supply. We're not shipping any energy out of the gulf to Asia, to China."
Wilson sarcastically added, "This is just a string of genius moves on Donald Trump's part."
Jong-Fast commented that according to reporting in the Wall Street Journal, the Trump Administration "was warned that this was going to completely f– – up the whole economy."
"At every point we see," Jong-Fast told Wilson, "they're warned this is a bad idea. They decided to do it anyway because Trump gets tricked by (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu."
