Former Rep. Madison Cawthorn relocated from his home state of North Carolina to Florida, The News & Observer reports.

The Trump-backed politician, who lost his congressional seat in November, confirmed the move. The former congressman recently voiced his support of Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) for House speaker before Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) secured the vote.

On Instagram last week, Cawthorn posted a tweet reading, “I know @ByronDonalds to be the most honorable, capable, and talented man I've ever had the pleasure of knowing in my 27 years. Byron for speaker.”

That post caption also read, “There are many reasons I moved to Florida. One of the big contributing factors is that I know Byron Donalds is a leader in this state. That means this state will always be on offense to safeguard our future. Byron for Speaker.”

Months of speculation that the lame duck congressman had moved came after he posted photos of the aftermath of Category 4 Hurricane Ian to his Instagram.

Some weeks later, The Asheville Citizen Times reported in November that Cawthorn bought a $1.16 million home with a boat in Cape Coral, FL. When asked about his current city of residence, Cawthorn’s spokesman Micah Bock refused to provide an answer because it was “personal.”

Not even one day after House members finally voted McCarthy as House speaker following 14 rounds of voting, GOP Rep. Chuck Edwards was sworn in to fill Cawthorn’s congressional seat.
