'I don’t remember': Pence rejects claim Trump urged Arizona governor to overturn election

Recently announced 2024 Republican candidate and former Vice President Mike Pence is denying that ex-President Donald Trump tried to include Arizona in his ploy to overturn the 2020 election, CNN reports.

This comes after The Washington Post exclusively reported Saturday that Trump attempted "to pressure Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) to overturn the state's presidential election results" during a 2020 phone call.

According to the Post, Ducey spokesman Daniel Scarpinato confirmed the fact Ducey actively resisted Trump's attempt, saying, "This is neither new nor is it news to anyone following this issue the last two years. Governor Ducey defended the results of Arizona's 2020 election, he certified the election, and he made it clear that the certification provided a trigger for credible complaints backed by evidence to be brought forward. None were ever brought forward. The Governor stands by his action to certify the election and considers the issue to be in the rear view mirror."

Pence, during a CBS Face the Nation interview Sunday, rejected Scarpinato's claim, saying, "I don't remember any pressure. In the days of November and December, this was an orderly process. You remember there were more than 60 lawsuits underway. States were engaging in appropriate reviews, and these contacts were no more than that."

Furthermore, the GOP hopeful insisted Trump was "calling to get an update," adding he "passed along that information to the president. And it was no more, no less than that."

The former Vice President noted, "I did check in with, not only Gov. Ducey, but other governors and states that were going through the legal process of reviewing their election results, but there was no pressure involved."
