'Failed to launch': DeSantis donors 'frustrated with his lack of momentum' as Haley rises in polls
Election 2024

In poll after poll, Donald Trump remains the clear frontrunner in the 2024 GOP presidential primary. The former president leads the primary's second-place candidate, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, by 53 percent in a Morning Consult poll released on November 21 and by 51 percent in a Messenger/HarrisX poll released the day before that.

The third-place candidate, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, isn't far behind DeSantis in those polls. And a Monmouth University poll released on November 17 finds Haley in second place among New Hampshire Republicans, with DeSantis trailing her by 11 percent. Haley's supporters are quick to point out that in hypothetical President Joe Biden/Haley matchups, Haley would be the candidate Biden should fear the most.

In an article published on November 21, The New Republic's Tori Otten reports that as DeSantis' campaign continues to struggle, the bitterness between the DeSantis and Haley camps is growing worse.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

"Ron DeSantis' team can't decide how to respond to Nikki Haley's growing success in the presidential race," Otten explains. "The infighting is so bad that some advisers are turning on each other. Two leaders of DeSantis' Never Back Down super PAC nearly got into a fistfight during a private meeting last week to discuss how to push back on Haley, NBC News reported Tuesday, (November 21)

Otten notes that that DeSantis' donors have "grown frustrated with his lack of momentum," and one of them is billionaire Ken Griffin — who told Bloomberg News he is "actively contemplating" a Haley donation.

"DeSantis was once lauded as the natural successor to Donald Trump, but his campaign has failed to launch," Otten observes. "When Haley first announced her candidacy, her support was in the single digits. She was far behind DeSantis, and even further behind front-runner Donald Trump."
