Nancy Mace brutally mocked for 'performative nonsense' following 'scarlet letter stunt'

When far-right Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) triggered a "motion to vacate," Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina was among the House Republicans who joined the far-right MAGA congressman in voting to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California) as speaker. McCarthy's allies are furious with Mace, which may be why she wore a t-shirt with the letter "A" to work on Tuesday, October 10 ("A" as in "angry").
Mace's stunt has been drawing plenty of ridicule and mockery from her critics.
Some of the criticism came from former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois), whose scathing criticism of former President Donald Trump and work on the January 6 Select Committee made him a pariah among MAGA Republicans.

The conservative Kinzinger, on October 11, tweeted, "It's important to remember. @NancyMace will play like she is being brave with her vote. I know for a fact she almost voted to impeach trump. She didn't have the courage to, now she is desperately trying to be liked. It's not courage it's creepy."
MSNBC's Katie Phang slammed Mace as well on X (formerly Twitter), referencing Hamas' terrorist attack on Gaza and posting, "Innocent women, children, and men are being brutally murdered and terrorized, but Nancy Mace thinks this performative nonsense is the highest and best use of her time."
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), tweeted, "Nancy Mace openly wore the scarlet letter on her chest & I thought she was embracing the video that's been circulating of her, but nope, seems like she may not have known that the A stands for Adulterer… (Reading is fundamental)."
There has been considerable bad blood between Mace and far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia), but Mother Jones' David Corn compared the GOP congresswomen in an October 10 tweet.
Posting video of Mace talking to reporters in her "A" shirt, Corn wrote, "So she's now competing with Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert?"
Law professor Anthony Michael Kreis tweeted, "I truly do not understand Nancy Mace." And Alessandro Marazzi Sassoon, a Georgia-based journalist, said of Mace's shirt, "Is this a scarlet letter reference?
