Greene dodges question of whether she’ll drop effort to oust Johnson if Trump steps in: 'He loves me'

US Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has already warned Speaker Mike Johnson that if he brings the bipartisan Ukrainian aid bill to the House floor, she attempt to force his ouster.

Last month, the Georgia congresswoman filed a motion to vacate — which she called a "warning" to the Speaker — and this week, Greene wrote a letter to Johnson "laying out clearly why" the House is in need of new leadership, she said on X (formerly Twitter).

"He has funded the left’s radical agenda time and time again!" Greene tweeted.

MSNBC's Zeeshan Aleem wrote in a Wednesday, April 10 op-ed, "Capitol Hill observers see her missive as a serious threat to put Johnson’s speakership to a vote. At this point, it appears that if Johnson goes ahead in the coming weeks with a bill providing aid to Ukraine, Greene might just pull the trigger."

However, Johnson is set to meet with former President Donald Trump on Friday, April 12 for a press conference on regarding possible legislation on the banning of non-U.S. citizens from voting.

Because Greene is a staunch supporter of the MAGA hopeful, CNN's Manu Raju asked the Georgia leader whether Trump's influence could, perhaps, prevent her from moving to oust Johnson.

Raju wrote via X:

Asked if Trump’s appearance with Mike Johnson tomorrow will influence her push for the speaker’s ouster, MTG told me: 'I think the motion to vacate is also being supported by quite a few members in our conference. That’s an internal House issue with our elected Speaker of the House. Totally two separate issues.'

'Asked her — if Trump says he opposes her motion to vacate Johnson would she drop it?'

'Let me tell you, I support President Trump, I’m one of his biggest fighters here in Congress. He knows it, I love the president, he loves me, we’re fighting hard for him to win and that’s all that matters,' she said in response.'

Aleem emphasized, "If she really attempts to oust Johnson in the coming weeks for daring to defy her demands, and succeeds, she will be the one responsible for pushing the party into another historic display of chaotic internal strife. But it seems that Greene would be happy to leave the House GOP in ruins if she can stand tallest amid the rubble."
