MSNBC’s Steve Benen on Tuesday detailed how President Joe Biden is using comments from the Republican Party to bolster his re-election effort, noting Team Biden will likely continue to let the opposition “write their campaign ads for them.

As Benen reports, Biden last week took to X with comments from former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who called him a “pro-union president” during a Fox News interview.

“When you have a president that’s consistently saying, ‘go union, go union,’ this is what you get,” Haley said on Fox News.

That clip of Haley was followed by a soundbite from Fox News host Neil Cavuto saying, “This president clearly does prioritize union jobs.”

Posting the clip, Joe Biden’s X account simply wrote “yes” above the video.

Benen writes:

A day later, Team Biden was eager to remind voters about Donald Trump’s far-right record on reproductive rights, so it released a video featuring the former president’s own comments on the subject.

Earlier this month, in the first Republican presidential primary debate, Haley also offered some criticisms of Donald Trump’s fiscal record. That, too, seemed like the sort of thing Team Biden wanted voters to hear — so it created a video featuring this rhetoric, too.

Biden, Benen notes, is likely to continue letting the Republican Party make the case for his re-election.

"Don’t be surprised if Biden and his team continue to let Republicans write their campaign ads for them,” Benen adds.
