Defense attorney details the technicality underpinning Trump’s hush money legal strategy
As Donald Trump attempts to delay sentencing in his New York hush money case, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is urging presiding Justice Juan Merchan to deny the president-elect's request.
Speaking with defense attorney Misty Marris on Monday, CNN's Boris Sanchez questioned why Trump wants "to avoid the sentencing even though he knows the outcome" — considering he likely won't face time behind bars.
The defense lawyer explained that Trump's legal team's strategy on the matter is likely more about how the incoming president, who's slated to take office for the second time on January 20, is perceived by the public.

"I think it's less of a legal question and more of the impact of what this means from the public perception perspective," Marris said.
"Because the difference now is he is technically not a convicted felon until that sentencing hearing moves forward," she continued, "And if he is actually going through that sentencing proceeding, that would be the difference — that label of convicted felon."
Marris added, "So it seems that his legal team is trying to pump this out so that is still up in the air and not a label that would be on him as he is inaugurated."
