Laura Loomer’s 'appalling' extremism is exposing 'internal tensions' in Trump World

Florida-based MAGA activist Laura Loomer has the distinction of being one of the few people who even Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) has accused of being too far to the right.

Greene herself is a far-right MAGA conspiracy theorist who once claimed that "Jewish space lasers" were causing wildfires in California. But a September 8 tweet from Loomer was so overtly racist that even Greene was offended. And Greene, along with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), is urging former President Donald Trump to distance himself from her — fearing that Loomer's extremism could harm Trump's presidential campaign.

Loomer ridiculed Vice President Kamala Harris' Indian heritage, tweeting, "If @KamalaHarris wins, the White House will smell like curry & White House speeches will be facilitated via a call center and the American people will only be able to convey their feedback through a customer satisfaction survey at the end of the call that nobody will understand."

Greene, in response, attacked the post as "appalling and extremely racist," claiming that it "does not represent President Trump" and the MAGA movement.

"This type of behavior should not be tolerated ever," Greene tweeted. "@LauraLoomer should take this down."

Tweeting an article by journalists Joe Perticone and Marc A. Caputo for the conservative website The Bulwark, their colleague Sam Stein summarized the Loomer-related infighting among Republicans.

Stein tweeted, "A Loomer saga story brimming with news * MTG called Trump about it * The NRSC has posted EIGHT Loomer videos itself * (Sen JD) Vance, whose wife is of Indian-American descent, is not commenting on Loomer's racist anti-Indian tweet."

In The Bulwark, Perticone and Caputo report, "Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) fired off criticisms of Loomer after she was spotted twice with Trump in as many days, warning that her presence could trip up the ex-president's election chances. Greene said she went so far as to bring up the matter with Trump on a phone call….. In response, Loomer went nuclear, accusing both Greene and Graham of being insufficiently MAGA, questioning the senator's sexuality, criticizing the congresswoman for having affairs that led to her divorce, and comparing her to a 'hooker.'"

The Bulwark journalists add, "The quarreling, visceral even by Trump World standards, was viewed with intense schadenfreude in Democratic circles. It brought to the surface some of the internal tensions that Trump's team had successfully buried for much of the election season."

Loomer has become such a sensitive subject in Trump World that a campaign adviser, interviewed on condition of anonymity, told The Bulwark, "We're staying out of this."
