'Everything you need to know': Lara Trump’s RNC resignation fuels speculation on Senate run
MSN UK

On Sunday night, December 8, President-elect Donald Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, announced that she is leaving her position as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC).

The move is fueling speculation that Lara Trump will run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Marco Rubin (R-Florida), Donald Trump's nominee for secretary of state. Many of the president-elect's nominees for his incoming administration are quite controversial, but Rubio is among his more mainstream picks. And in 2025, he is likely to receive a bipartisan confirmation in the Senate.

Lara Trump told the Associated Press (AP) that a Senate run is "something I would seriously consider."

Lara Trump's decision is getting a lot of reactions on X, formerly Twitter.

Journalist Chris Cillizza tweeted a video, noting, "She could have just stepped down, but she gave an interview to the Associated Press — and she knew it would be widely distributed — to talk about stepping down and what's next, which tells you everything you need to know…. That's why she gave the interview."

Right-wing journalist Nick Sortor, known for his work for Fox News and Newsmax, tweeted, "#BREAKING: Lara Trump has just stepped down as Co-Chair of the RNC Is @RonDeSantis appointing her to U.S. Senate?"

Another media figure, Russell Drew, mocked Lara Trump, posting, "Why is Lara Trump stepping down as co-chair of the RNC? Hopefully, it's not to pursue a full-time singing career."

Greg Cappiello tweeted, "All she wanted to do was direct all of the RNC money and effort toward Donald Trump getting elected. No focus on down ballot races. Mission accomplished."
