'What else is he going to say?' Michael Steele drops scathing take on Trump 'peace plan'

Thirty-eight years after writing his 1987 book "The Art of the Deal" with journalist Tony Schwartz, U.S. President Donald Trump still fancies himself a dealmaker — only now, he is making deals in politics rather than real estate.
Trump is touting a "peace plan" that, he claims, will bring the Russia/Ukraine War to an end. The U.S. president is saying that he has no preference for either Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky or Russian President Vladimir Putin — his only goal is to see the conflict end.
But former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele slammed Trump's "peace plan" as favorable to Putin during a brief but biting commentary on MSNBC.

During a Saturday morning, April 26 broadcast of MSNBC's "The Weekend," the Never Trump conservative and MSNBC host commented, "You know, Trump doesn't engage in diplomacy, alright? So, can we stop pretending he does? He doesn't…. The bottom line is his design has been drawn up by Russia. The plan he's pushing is a Russian plan."
Zelensky expressed optimism about negotiations after a meeting with Trump. But Steele argued that the Ukrainian president is getting the short end of the stick.
The former RNC chairman lamented, "The reality of it is — and I appreciate President Zelensky's optimism of a good meeting. What else is he going to say? It sucked? But the reality of it is that you're dealing with someone who's not a good-faith partner and someone who does not want to see you survive this."
A frustrated Steele added, "So, why are we sitting down and pretending that this is all now going to shift in a direction in which a fair deal — in which the sovereignty of Ukraine — remains intact and Russia backs the hell up and gets out?"
