Ex-RNC chair warns Dems to gear up for 'full-throated MAGA attack' as election gets much uglier

During a late July appearance on MSNBC, veteran Democratic strategist warned fellow supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris' 2024 presidential campaign that MAGA Republicans will only escalate their attacks on her in the weeks and months ahead.
"Get ready, they're coming after us," Carville told MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski. "This kind of giddy elation is not gonna be very helpful much longer."
Never Trump conservative, MSNBC host and former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele echoes Carville's warning in an opinion column published by MSNBC on August 2 — predicting that the 2024 election is going to get a lot uglier.

"Democrats have had a remarkable two weeks, as Vice President Kamala Harris has re-energized their hopes for retaining the White House and definitively turning the page on the Trump era," Steele explains. "But it's only been two weeks. Even in the most abbreviated general election campaign in modern history, the likely Democratic nominee will face three full months of negative advertising, blunders and bad luck, just like any other candidate."
Steele continues, "As the honeymoon phase comes to a close, the newly cemented Harris campaign needs to lay the groundwork for what's next, take advantage of its tremendous grassroots support across the country, and prepare a counteroffensive to the coming attacks."
The 65-year-old Steele, who was the RNC's first Black chairman, is a veteran of conservative politics. But he is a scathing critic of former President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.
Steele supported President Joe Biden's 2020 campaign and is rooting for Harris now. And the former RNC chairman argues that Carville's warning for the Harris campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is spot on, predicting that "Trump and his allies will resort to vicious attacks in an attempt to define Harris."

"Over the next three months," Steele emphasizes, "Democrats at all levels need to harness the enthusiasm for Harris into action. The Trump campaign was caught off guard by the quick consolidation of support for the vice president, but Democrats need to prepare for a full-throated attack. MAGA Republicans won't go down without a fight."
