MAGA Republican who once claimed women 'can’t keep their skirts down' admits wife got an abortion

In recent weeks, far-right North Carolina gubernatorial hopeful Mark Robinson has been trying to soften his rhetoric on abortion.
And that includes a new ad in which he acknowledges that his wife had an abortion during the 1990s.
But Robinson's critics are slamming him his softer tone as hypocritical flip-flopping and noting how inflammatory his anti-abortion comments were in the past.
In the ad, solemn music plays while Robinson is seen holding hands with his wife Yolanda and says, "Thirty years ago, my wife and I made a very difficult decision: we had an abortion. It was like this solid pain between us that we never spoke of."

Robinson goes on to say that he stands by North Carolina's current abortion law, which "provides common-sense exceptions for the life of the mother."
But the tone of that ad is a big departure from his in-your-face anti-abortion comments of the past.
A user of X, formerly Twitter, noted that in 2019, Robinson said, "Abortion in this country is not about protecting the lives of mothers. It's about killing the child because you weren't responsible enough to keep your skirt down."
X user John Carlson said of Robinson, "Effin hypocrite! It was ok for them, but you can't be trusted to make that decision."

North Carolina voter Wade Wilson called Robinson out as a "hypocrite" and tweeted that he is "excited to vote for" Robinson's Democratic gubernatorial opponent Josh Stein.
Former Republican Brittany Maldonado posted, "Has he ever said why they made this decision? He was 25 and they had been married for 4 years. Normally, I wouldn't ask, but since he opened up about it."
Vicki Andresen said of Robinson, "And men aren't responsible enough because they CAN'T keep their zippers up!?"
