President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden has been indicted on nine federal tax charges that, according to federal prosecutor David Weiss, could result in up to 17 years in prison. This is in addition to the gun charges he was already facing.

To supporters of U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, these tax charges show that Garland is such an institutionalist and so by-the-book that even the president's son is not immune to the scrutiny of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). But Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo is promoting a "conspiracy theory" that these tax charges are part of a "cover up" designed to help the Bidens.

Discussing the tax charges with Rep. Bryan Steil (R-Wisconsin), Bartiromo said, "Is it not true that the IRS, the FBI, the DOJ knew all of this now for a long time? They've been sitting on this potential indictment. Why did they release it now, three days before Hunter Biden is expected to testify behind closed doors for even bigger crimes?.... And is this a further cover-up?"

Journalist Aaron Rupar found Bartiromo's claims to be ludicrous.

In a December 8 post on X, formerly Twitter, Rupar tweeted video of Bartiromo and wrote, "Maria Bartiromo is already running with the conspiracy theory that Hunter Biden's indictment on serious felony charges is part of a 'cover up' to protect the Bidens."

Rupar isn't the only one calling Bartiromo out on Twitter.

Attorney R.J. Karvay tweeted, "Fox News often leans more toward entertainment than actual news reporting. Take the latest on Maria Bartiromo: spinning a conspiracy about Hunter Biden's indictment to cater to viewer biases rather than offering useful, factual information for important decision-making."

Pundit Gareth Penn mockingly tweeted, "Of course the Biden administration is shielding the Biden family from prosecution by prosecuting a member of the Biden family! It's the only way to make sense of a confusing world!"

Another pundit, Jayme Ruimveld, lamented, "@MariaBartiromo was perhaps once a respected financial journalist. Now she's just a ruthless gossip and a mean girl."

Attorney Bradley P. Moss pointed out that President Biden isn't interfering with the DOJ charges against his son.

Moss tweeted, "Just a reminder that at any time Biden could, without restriction, pardon his son for both indictments. He could intervene to order DOJ to back off. He could denounce the Special Counsel and spew political invective. He has done none of those things. Nor should he."
