Trumpworld allies oppose threats to oust 'MAGA' Mike Johnson: report

House Speaker Mike Johnson and former President Donald Trump are expected to convene for a joint Mar-a-Lago press conference Friday, as the Speaker faces a potential ouster by GOP hardliners, and while Trump faces his first criminal trial on Monday, April 15.
The press conference is set to "promote House legislation aimed at banning non-U.S. citizens from voting, which is already a criminal felony," USA Today reports.
According to a Thursday, April 11 Axios report, sources close to Trump are "concerned about the prospects of another ugly speakership fight with uncertain outcomes," and "believe Johnson is as good of a House speaker as they are going to get this Congress."

US Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has threatened — several times — that she plans to move to oust Johnson if he brings the $60 billion Ukrainian aid bill to the House floor.
CNN's Manu Raju asked the Georgia lawmaker Thursday whether Trump's support for the Speaker could change her mind.
Not directly answering the question, Greene replied, "Let me tell you, I support President Trump, I’m one of his biggest fighters here in Congress. He knows it, I love the president, he loves me, we’re fighting hard for him to win and that’s all that matters."
Axios reports, "Meanwhile, one source argues Johnson's policy positions have long aligned more with the former president's agenda."

One Trumpworld ally emphasized, "Mike's always been MAGA whereas Kevin agreed with him when it was politically beneficial."
Another MAGA ally added, "It's past the trade deadline. Now we got to win the Super Bowl with the players you got."
Republican strategist Alex Bruesewitz told the news outlet, "I respect people on both sides, but it's my hope that we can have this fight after November. We should all be reunited in getting President Trump back into the White House and winning as many [House] seats as possible."
