'I couldn’t believe my eyes': Ex-GOP rep hits state trooper’s car after alleged 'angry road rage tantrum'

Former US Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC), who was unseated during an intense primary race after facing backlash from fellow GOP colleagues over several scandals, has run into a bit of trouble with the law — literally.
On Monday, April 15, a woman under the X (formerly Twitter) name @Woman2DC, wrote, "Former Republican Congressman Madison Cawthorne who was tailgating me, just rear ended a FL State Trooper."
She continued, "I was driving on i75S towards Miami in the left lane and this black tinted sports car was tailgating me relentlessly. I accelerated ahead and moved to the right lane in front of a tractor trailer to let the car by."

The woman then explained that after traffic came to a stop five minutes later, she sees the car that was tailgating her.
"Suddenly the car door opens and a man in a wheelchair rolls out," she wrote. "I couldnt believe my eyes. It occured to me that former CONGRESSMAN CAWTHORNE from NC was the black CAR that stormed by me in an angry road rage tantrum."
She added, "I spoke to the cop to see if he was ok as he was quite stunned & kept reaching for his neck. He said he was ok, asked if I was a witness, (I wasnt, I must have been 30 seconds behind) and I gave them water as i didnt know what else to do after he thanked me for stopping."
Newsweek reports, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) spokesman Greg Bueno told the news outlet via email "that an FHP vehicle was rear-ended by a Mercedes driven by a 28-year-old man from Cape Coral."

The Miami New Times, according to Newsweek, has reported that Cawthorn is a Cape Coral resident.
"The State Trooper sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital," Bueno told the news outlet. "The crash remains under investigation."
According to OPB, the disgraced ex-congressman was ousted in 2022 after several scandals, including finding "himself in hot water with GOP leadership after making comments — without evidence — that linked his own party with cocaine use and orgies."
Furthermore, the former right-wing leader had "also been stopped on two separate occasions at airports for carrying a loaded gun, and has been charged twice for driving with a revoked license."
