Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK.) said President Donald Trump's "Big, Beautiful Bill" that she voted to advance Tuesday should be reworked by the House because it is "not there yet."
"My hope is that the House will look at this and recognize that we're not there yet," said Murkowski, speaking to reporters moments after she voted for the bill.
Murkowski, who was opposed to the legislation, managed to win key concessions on federal health and food-aid programs for her state.

“I had to look on balance, because the people in my state are the ones that I put first,” Murkowski said in a conversation with reporters at the Capitol. “We do not have a perfect bill by any stretch of the imagination," she added.
In April, the lawmaker had expressed fears of retaliation under Trump, saying, "We're all afraid."
The Alaska Republican's remarks Tuesday have been strongly criticized on social media.
Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-N.Y.) wrote on the social platform X: "Murkowski votes yes and hopes it doesn’t pass. Hawley says it’s terrible for his constituents and the middle class … yet votes yes. It’s pretty simple: words don’t matter. Votes do."

The Washington Post editor Benji Sarlin wrote: "'Please don't pass the bill I just voted for' is one of the most maddening recurring features of Congress."
Journalist David Dayen, reacting to Murkowski's statement, wrote: "My eyes just rolled out of my head, one sec."
Meanwhile, Trump appeared to suggest that his self-imposed July 4 deadline for Congress to pass his signature bill might not be met."I think it’s very hard to do," he told reporters on Monday.
