Judge smacks down request to disqualify Trump from Michigan ballot: reports

A judge has rejected efforts to keep ex-President Donald Trump off the 2024 presidential election ballot in Michigan under the 14th Amendment, CNN reports.
Per WXYZ Detroit, local activists "filed a lawsuit against Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson in an attempt to force her to keep Trump off the ballot and decide whether he is constitutionally qualified to be on there," arguing the MAGA hopeful "was disqualified from serving under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment which said no one can serve as president if they 'have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.'"
Judge James Redford, according to WXYZ, noted in his ruling "that the request is a 'political question' and not a question to be decided by the courts," and CNN reports, Redford "separately ruled that Michigan’s secretary of state doesn’t have the power under state law to determine Trump's eligibility for office based on the constitutional amendment."
