'Find a new job': Republican senator ripped for 'callous' views on draconian Trump cuts

Opponents of President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill" — which narrowly passed in the U.S. House of Representatives, 215-214, and went to the U.S. Senate for consideration — are warning that its cuts to Medicaid will cause millions of Americans to lose their health insurance.
Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) defended the cuts during a town hall event in late May, claiming that they are targeting fraud — not Americans who are genuinely needy. But attendees weren't convinced.
One of them shouted, "People are going to die" — to which Ernest responded, "Well, we all are going to die." And her comment is drawing plenty of criticism on X, formerly Twitter.

The conservative group Republicans Against Trump tweeted, "A constituent, angry about Medicaid cuts: 'People are going to die.' Republican Senator Joni Ernst: 'Well, we're all going to die.' Callous doesn’t even begin to cover it.
CAP Action commented, "Republicans know exactly what they are doing — all so billionaires can get another tax cut."
X user Keith Meredith remarked, "If your job is easier if all your constituents die, maybe you should find a new job."
Iowa State Sen. Zach Wahls, a Democrat, tweeted a video response, saying, "Iowans are getting screwed by Washington politicians. And with answers like that from Sen. Joni Ernst, it's not a big mystery to see why that's happening."

Joshua Reed Eakle, executive director of Project Liberal, tweeted, "Constituent angry about the cuts in the Big Beautiful Bill: 'People are going to die.' Republican Senator Joni Ernst: 'Well, we're all going to die.' Please Republicans, keep it up with this messaging. You're doing great."
The group Protect Our Care posted, "BREAKING: Asked about Medicaid and SNAP cuts killing people, Joni Ernst replied: 'Well we all are going to die.' This is the Republican health care agenda: indifference to the lives of working families. We won’t stop fighting for care. #SaveMedicaid."
Self-described "Never Trumper" Rob Smith wrote, "@SenJoniErnst has lost her moral compass. She should be ashamed for enabling the MAGA Dear Leader. History will not be kind to her."
