'Brazen misogyny of MAGA': If Harris wins, it will be because 'women rejected Trumpism'
Election 2024

When Election Day 2024 arrived, many reporters were stressing that the outcome of the United States' presidential race would come down to turnout — and a heavy turnout among female voters would be a good sign for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Both national and battleground state polls have been showing a major gender gap, with Harris enjoying stronger support among women and former President Donald Trump enjoying stronger support among men.

In an op-ed published by MSNBC on Election Day, journalist Molly Jong-Fast stresses that if Harris does win, it will be because female voters rejected Trumpism in big numbers.

"Now, in 2024, we're seeing what happens when women's bodily autonomy is threatened and stripped away," Jong-Fast stresses. "We're seeing a striking gender gap when it comes to support for Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump, with early voting polls showing a 10-percentage-point gender gap. And when we look at the policies Trump has helped enact versus the promises Harris has pledged, it's no mystery why."

2024, Jong-Fast notes, is the United States' first presidential race since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade with its unpopular Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling of 2022.

"Women voters, as Justice Samuel Alito said in the Supreme Court opinion that overturned Roe and took away a constitutional right women had had for half a century, 'are not without electoral or political power,'" Jong-Fast explains. "Alito likely didn't mean that statement as a rallying cry, but it seems like a lot of American women took it as such."

Jong-Fast continues, "If Harris wins the election, it will be because women rejected Trumpism. It will be because they rejected the cruelty, the stupidity and the brazen misogyny of the MAGA reality. And it will also be because a near-flawless candidate ran a near-flawless campaign."
